Hey there crafty friends! I hope everyone has been enjoying this beautiful fall season. I’ve been busy working on some of my own digital stamp sets and I have officially opened the doors to my Etsy store Polka Dot Orchard. The card I’m sharing with you today was created with the Sketchy Pumpkin Spice digi set. I really like this digi set and I have had a lot of fun creating with it.
To start with, I taped some 90lb canson watercolor paper on a hardboard. I then used some Tim Holtz distress ink and the smooshing technique to add color to the paper. Taping it down to the board helped it dry flat. After my paper was completely dry, (I use my heat gun to help it along) I then printed that fun pumpkin spice background.
In my photo editing program I placed and overlapped the pumpkin pie, coffee mug, and pumpkin roll in the way I wanted them to print. After printing on Canson 90lb watercolor paper I watercolored my image with Tim Holtz distress ink. I smashed my ink pads on an acrylic block and used a waterbrush to pick up the ink. After it was dry I cut it out the fussy way. I used a white gel pen to add the white to the swirl on the pumpkin roll and to add the look of powder sugar to the top of the pie and roll.
Using Tim Holtz distress ink color evergreen bough and the smooshing technique I create my solid color paper. ** The smooshing technique is when you press your ink pads on to a flimsy plastic (transparency, acetate, etc), spray it with water and then press it onto your paper, then repeat until you’re happy with the look.
Using a small stitched circle die I cut some vellum which I later attached my fun foam popped, fussy cut pumpkin spice image to. I also cut the sentiment “Have A Spicetastic Day!” with a stitched die; a stitched border die. The sentiment is from the Sketchy Pumpkin Spice set.
I chose to embellish this card with some purple jute twine and purple sequins. I really like how adding just a little bit of purple looked and I felt it added some nice contrast in color.
All elements of my card were layered on to some Neenah solar white card stock and adhered with my trusty atg tape gun. I glued the sequins down using Ranger’s Multi Medium matte glue which has become my go-to for liquid glue. Also, since it dries with a matte finish if a little bit comes out from the edge of my embellishments you can’t see it.
