Growing In Unity 2020 Day 2

Hey there crafty friends, I hope everyone is doing well. I’m itching to get out the house myself. I thinking of hitting up the Target dollar spot, I love going there just for that. I have masks and gloves so I’m good to run in to take a quick look to get away from my kiddos, because you know us moms do need a break every now and then. Anyways, this week is my week as a Growing In Unity girl and I have a quick easy way to make something small, just to let someone you know you are thinking of them.

Do you ever look at your crafty scraps and wonder, what in the world to do with them? Well, I have the answer, make 3×3 notecards. This is also a great way to create a WOW with those little stamps that we are never quite sure what to do with.

What you will need for a card like this is a 3×6 scrap of white cardstock and a 3×6 scrap of vellum. Score both pieces down the middle (at the 3in mark). Take your little stamp with some black Stazon ink and stamp on the front of your vellum. Color you stamped image on the backside of your vellum using alcohol markers, remember Stazon ink and alcohol makers don’t work well together so don’t color on the front side of your vellum. The stamp I used is from Unity Kit Of The Month from March, 2016 called A Chance To Change.

Now, layer both pieces of your notecard together and with a pointy tool (a needle, craft pick, whatever you got that will easily make small holes), and make two small holes right in the fold. I kept mine close together and used a piece of thin jute to hold the vellum together but you can use what ever scrap string you have laying around. This step is a fantastic way to use up those small pieces of twine you can’t seem to throw out.

You can now leave it as is or get real down and scrappy with those crafty scraps. I used some pattern paper scraps to balance out my card design by attaching it to the top part of my white cardstock. I can’t leave things simple, I alway have to keep adding things to embellish my designs. I felt something needed to be done to tie the stamped image on the vellum together with the pattern paper on the cardstock so I added piece of ribbon scrap to the front of the vellum right where the pattern paper ends. Of course no card is complete with out a little jazz! So, I created some jazz by adding some sequins (note to self: I need more sequins, I do not have enough colors, lol).

Quick Tip: When attaching thin strips of ribbon, run it through a sticker maker. I use the little Xyron sicker makers and run 4 strips through at a time to get the most out of my sticker material. If you put multiple strips in at once, you have to pull slowly and guide the ribbon so they don’t overlap.

Well, I hope I have inspired you to get scrappy with those straps you have been hoarding.
