Hey there craft friends! Today I want to share something fun I made. If you didn’t know it, I love watercoloring stamped images. I also love home decor so I wanted to find away to incorporate my love for stamping, watercoloring and home decor all into one thing.
After lots of trial and error, I have created my first piece of stamped watercolored home decor. Isn’t the gnome stamped on this farmhouse book stack perfect that shade of of tan/orange? Very Irish if I might say so! ☘️💋 The gnome is from an adorable gnome line at Unity Stamp Company illustrated by Jeanie Hays, called {Shenanigans Gnome}. AND… I designed the sentiments to go with this set, WOOHOO!
After prepping my books, (straightening the binding, removing the cover, preparing the ends to take watercolor) I stamped it with Stazon Ink and did some minor touch up with a Faber Castell Pit Pen. I then watercolored my stamped image using my Mijello Mission Gold Watercolors.
If you are wondering about some of the things I mentioned above I will give a brief explanation.
- Unity Stamp Company make the best red rubber stamps right here in the USA.
- Stazon Ink is a permanent waterproof stamping ink that can be stamped on many surfaces, including some slick surfaces.
- Faber Castell Pit Pens are lightfast waterproof brush tip marker.
- Mijello Mission Gold Watercolors are Korean watercolors that are lightfast and high in pigment.
Wondering what lightfast means? When an art medium has high light fastness we refer to the medium as lightfast. Many pigment will fade when exposed to sunlight, some much more faster than others. When art mediums are considered lightfast artist quality, they take many many years to start fading when exposed to sunlight. Now, I have never tested my mediums for their lightfast quality so I’m putting my faith into the companies selling these kinds of mediums to be honest about their studies.
To protect the watercolored art on my stamped book stack, I sealed the book ends with Krylon UV-Resistant Matte sealant. I’ll tell you, once that sealant dried it really was matte, so matte I almost could not even tell I had sealed it.
I finished up my super cute watercolor book stack by keeping it simple and tying some jute twine around the end. Now, before adding the twin I had one final decision to make… To glue the books together, or not glue the books together? I decided not to and I’ll tell you why. The main reason is, I ran a test on actually gluing a set of books together, from the back side of the books the glue made several the pages wrinkle and look very unnatural. I wanted my books to look as naturally antiqued as they could so I opted for not gluing them together.
🌸🌸🌸🌸 I’ve decided to start selling my stamped watercolor book stacks as well as making them to order, so if you love this one you can get it here 👉 Kiss Me St. Patrick’s Day Gnome {Stamped Book Stack – Watercolor} 🌸🌸🌸🌸
